How the roof works
The roof over the dining room is retractable glass. When it's warm it opens, and you eat under the sky and a canopy of rainbow umbrellas. When it's cold, raining or snowing, it closes and the room is heated. Either way you're on the roof, with the West Side skyline around you.
That's why Cantina doesn't have a season. Taco Tuesday, karaoke Wednesday, the Taco Tower on Thursday, bottomless brunch on the weekend and Cantina After Dark on Friday and Saturday all keep running when it's cold.
Mexican rooftop, all year
Cantina opened in 2015 as Manhattan's first Mexican rooftop. The kitchen does birria tacos with consomé, three kinds of guacamole and a weekend brunch; the bar does margaritas, from frozen to the skull mug you take home. There's a live DJ every night we're open.

In town for a show at the Javits Center? It's about a 15-minute walk, and the Intrepid is about 5 minutes away.

Yes. The retractable glass roof closes in winter and the room is heated, so the rooftop stays open all year.
What happens when it rains or snows?
The glass roof closes and the party keeps going underneath it, with the same skyline view.
Can you still see the skyline when the roof is closed?
Yes. You're still on the roof, and the skyline stays in view either way.
Do I need a coat?
Bring one for the walk over. Inside, the roof is closed and the room is heated in winter.
What are your winter hours?
Tuesday to Thursday 5pm to 11pm, Friday 5pm to 3am, Saturday 12pm to 3am and Sunday 12pm to 9:30pm. Closed Mondays.
