The neighborhood, and our corner of it

Hell's Kitchen, also called Clinton, is the stretch of Manhattan's West Side between Midtown and the Hudson River, roughly from 34th Street up to 59th Street and from 8th Avenue west to the water. Many of its restaurants and bars line 9th and 10th Avenues, the Broadway theaters sit along its eastern edge, and the blocks beyond 11th Avenue open out toward the piers, the Intrepid and the Hudson River Park greenway.

That western stretch is where we are. Dining in Hell's Kitchen, for us, means a rooftop on 48th Street a block from 12th Avenue, with the river at the end of the street and most of the neighborhood within a walk.

How Cantina fits into a Hell's Kitchen week

Every night of the week has its own reason to come up:

  • Tuesday: Taco Tuesday, unlimited tacos for 90 minutes at $25 per person, 5 to 11pm, by reservation. Taco Tuesday →
  • Wednesday: karaoke from 7 to 10pm. Karaoke night →
  • Thursday: Taco Tower night, with the Taco Tower at $90.
  • Saturday and Sunday: brunch from 12pm to 4:30pm (last seating 3:45pm). Bottomless is $25 per person for 90 minutes, and everyone at the table takes part. Bottomless brunch →

Over all of it is a retractable glass roof: open to the sky in summer, closed and heated in winter, so a January night works up here too. A DJ plays live every night, and the menu is tacos, guacamole, margaritas and mezcal.
