Your family is in town and dinner is on you
They've done Times Square. You want somewhere they can't get at home and you won't have to apologize for. We're a Mexican rooftop on the far West Side, with rainbow umbrellas, the Midtown skyline and drinks served in a pineapple.
What to tell them before they come
- The address is 605 W 48th St, between 11th and 12th Avenues. It's about 20 minutes on foot from Times Square, so give the cab driver the address.
- It's loud. There's a live DJ every night we're open. Say so now, not at the door.
- Casual is fine, even for the relative who brought a blazer.
- The roof is glass. It's open on warm days, and closed and heated when it's cold.
- We're closed on Mondays, which catches a lot of visitors out.
What ends up in the photos they send home
- Piña Loca$39A whole pineapple on the table, with a straw in it.
- Vozul Skull Margarita$39The mug is theirs to keep. It's a better souvenir than a foam crown.
- Coco Loco Mojito$25Served in a coconut.
- Skull Lava Cake$12A chocolate skull, on a plate, with ice cream.
- Trío de Guacamole$38Three bowls, three different guacamoles.

Which night, if they're only here for a few days
Friday
Good for the first night. Dinner from 5pm, and nobody has to be anywhere early on Saturday.
Saturday
Brunch from 12pm if they want the skyline in daylight, or dinner from 5pm.
Sunday
Flying out Monday? Dinner from 5pm and we close at 9:30pm, so they'll get to bed.
Tuesday
Here midweek? $25 a person for unlimited tacos over 90 minutes.
Hosting questions
Where should I take visitors for dinner in NYC?
If they want something fun and a view of the Midtown skyline, try our rooftop. If they want a quiet white-tablecloth dinner, we're not your place.
Can they keep the skull mug?
Yes. The Vozul Skull Margarita ($39) comes in a skull mug that's yours to keep.
Is there parking?
Street parking only, so a cab is often easier.
Do they need to book ahead?
We recommend it. Walk-ins are welcome when there's room, but we can't promise them one.
