Book the table by the sun, not by habit
Sunset in New York tonight is about 4:50pm, and our dinner tables start at 5pm. In the winter months the sun's gone before we open for dinner. In June you could sit down at 7:30 and still catch it. The chart has the table to book for each month.
The table to book, by month
Sunset on the 15th of each month over our roof, worked out for this year and rounded to five minutes. The table gives you about an hour before it.

On a Saturday or Sunday in the winter months, try the last brunch table at 3:30pm. You'd have it for 90 minutes, which takes you past sunset. Dinner doesn't start until 5pm.
What you'll be looking at
The view from the tables is Midtown. As the sun goes down behind you, the towers turn gold, and the umbrellas glow. That's what you see in the photo.
If you're after the sun sinking into the Hudson, that's not this. We're a rooftop on a West Side block with Midtown in front of us, and we won't sell it as a river view.
When it's warm, the glass roof may be open. When it's cold or wet, you'll get the same light through the glass.
