Vegetarian at a Mexican table, read straight off the menu

There's a Taco Vegetariano ($19), and more than you might expect around it: guacamole three ways, melted cheese, fajitas without the protein. It's a menu built around meat, though, so here's what's clearly fine and what to ask about.

The list

We sorted these from the ingredient lines on our menu. The prices are tonight's. If the team takes a dish off the menu, it comes off this list too.

No meat or fish listed

Taco Vegetariano$19Roasted seasonal vegetables, black beans & pickled red onionThe one taco written for you, three to an order. The black beans in the side dish have pork, so ask about these.
Viva Guacamole$16Avocado, lime, onions, jalapeños, pepitas & cilantro, served with house-made totoposThe one most likely to suit a vegan too, going by what's listed.
Trío de Guacamole$38Clásico: serrano, onion, cilantro, lime & tomato · Cantina: pomegranate, apple & mango · Humo: chipotle & grilled cornThree bowls to pass around.
Costillitas de Elote$13Deep-fried corn, epazote, onions, cotija cheese & lime aioliHas cheese and aioli, so it's fine for you and not for a vegan.
Queso Fundido$18Melted Oaxaca cheese & rajas poblanas, served with house-made tortillasJust cheese and peppers, and warm tortillas for scooping.
Quesadillas$18House-made corn tortilla with Oaxaca cheeseSkip the add-ons, which are all meat.
Fajitas Clásicas$25Poblano peppers, onions, mushrooms & corn, served sizzling. Protein not includedThe one main for you. Protein is extra, so you don't add it.
Pico de Gallo$7A side, if you want something fresh on the table.

Ask first

Nachos Locos$18Loaded with Chihuahua cheese, beans, pico de gallo, crema & jalapeños. Protein not includedThe menu just says beans. The Frijoles Charros have pork, so ask which beans these are.
Arroz de la Abuela$8Mexican traditional riceThe menu doesn't say what the rice is cooked in.
Caesar Kale Salad$18Fresh baby kale, romaine hearts, parmesan cheese, crunchy tortilla strips & creamy Caesar dressingCaesar dressing and parmesan. Ask what's in the dressing if that matters to you.

What we can't tell you from the menu

This list comes from what's written on the menu. It says nothing about stock in the rice, shared fryers or what's in a sauce. If that matters to you, tell your server when you order and ask.

One to watch: the Frijoles Charros side has pork bits in it. Don't assume the beans are vegetarian just because they're beans.

Every taco on the menu comes with a creamy zucchini sauce and a chile de árbol sauce, and that includes the Taco Vegetariano.
