Mariscada con arroz: a pile of seafood, some rice
In some places mariscada is a soupy stew, and in others it's a heaped platter. The word just means a mix of seafood, so it covers a lot of ground.

What the rice is there for
The idea travels with Spanish and Portuguese cooking, and it turns up in Brazil, El Salvador and Mexico, each with its own shellfish and its own idea of broth. Some Mexican kitchens pile it on a platter, and others cook it down with rice into something close to a stew.
Mussels usually come in the shell, so expect to use your hands and leave a pile. Eat the seafood first while it's hot. The rice can wait, and it only gets better as it soaks up more.
Four kinds of seafood on ours: mussels, shrimp, octopus and white fish. It comes with Mexican rice, and the white-wine chipotle aioli it's finished with is listed as spicy.
