El Besito, a little kiss with some bite

This drink is close to a mezcal mule, which takes the vodka out of a Moscow mule and puts smoke in its place. Besito means little kiss.

What the ginger beer is for

The ginger beer matters most here. It started as a brewed alcoholic drink in Yorkshire in the 1700s, and it's spicier than ginger ale, with enough bite to stand up to mezcal.

Passion fruit is the tart, perfumed part. Sour fruit, smoke and the burn of ginger are a lot to have in one glass, but the bubbles keep it light. It's good with anything off the grill.

On our menu

The mezcal on ours is Amarás, with passion fruit, lime and ginger beer.
