A jalapeño margarita that starts with mezcal
The jalapeño takes its name from Xalapa, the capital of Veracruz, though the chile isn't grown around there. Xalapa's claim is the pickling and canning.

Heat you can still taste through
It's a mild to medium chile, and that's why it became the default spicy margarita: you can still taste the drink. A grassy, green flavor is most of what it adds.
Most versions muddle slices with tequila. Chile salt is the other route, where the heat comes with each sip at the lip, and you can drink from a clean part of the glass if it gets to be too much. As spicy drinks go, this is a fair starting point if you're curious.
Ours breaks from the usual in two ways: the base is Soy Valiente mezcal, and the jalapeño comes in the salt. With lime and simple syrup, expect smoke as much as heat.
Jalapeño Margarita: questions
What's the difference between a jalapeño and a habanero margarita?
Heat. A jalapeño is a few thousand Scoville units and a habanero is about 100,000 or more, so one is a tingle and the other a real burn.
Where does the name jalapeño come from?
