The pomegranate margarita, tart and very red
Pomegranate came to Mexico with the Spanish, and most people there know it as the red seeds on chiles en nogada, Puebla's patriotic dish of early fall.

Tart before it's sweet
That history makes a pomegranate drink feel less out of place here than you'd expect. The juice is tart and a little tannic, closer to cranberry than to a sweet fruit, which makes it good in a sour drink.
Order this one if you like your margarita sharp. It's a clean match for fried food and for anything creamy on the table. Watch your shirt, because this color doesn't come out.
The menu uses pomegranate juice with Vozul tequila, lime and simple syrup, with no orange liqueur listed.
Pomegranate Margarita: questions
What does a pomegranate margarita taste like?
Tart and slightly tannic, like a margarita crossed with cranberry juice, with a sweetness that depends on how much syrup goes in.
Are pomegranates native to Mexico?
No. Spanish colonists brought them over. They now grow in central Mexico and in parts of the north.
